2009 Caravan Sales Figures Up

Haven Holidays reported a 38 per cent increase in sales of “static” caravans this summer as cash-strapped Britons shunned (suddenly expensive) overseas breaks for cheaper ones in the UK.

Haven, one of Britain’s biggest caravan park operators and part of the Bourne Leisure Group, said that it had sold 2,500 caravans on mainly coastal sites since the summer season began in mid-March. It means that 25,000, or about half, of the caravans in its 34 holiday parks are now owned by third parties. Cornwall and Wales have proven to be particularly popular, with sales in those areas more than doubling this summer, Haven said.

Naomi Woodstock, senior product manager at Haven, said: “A lot more people are holidaying in Britain now and that’s making a huge difference. More and more people are coming to the parks and typically it is those who have had a holiday with us and enjoyed it that buy the caravans

“We have also noticed a rise in the demographic. A lot of people that would traditionally have gone overseas are now visiting the parks and buying caravans.” In some cases, people are even buying the caravans as an investment at a time when banking savings rates are low. A typical caravan costs about £18,000 and can be rented out for between £500 and £1,000 during August, the peak of the holiday season. Top-of-the range models can cost as much as £80,000, although they can earn more in rentals.

A buyer can use their caravan or sub-let it, privately or through Haven. Haven is happy to sell caravans in its parks because, after the sale, it continues to receive a fee from the owner for managing the site.

The British Grand Prix is Saved – Good News for Caravan Rentals

The news that the British Grand Prix will be staged at Silverstone for the forseeable future is very good news for people in the caravan rental industry. Many companies make a good profit out of the oldest Grand Prix on the Formula 1 calendar and the deal which could see the British GP staged at Silverstone for the next 17 years ensures that this will continue.

The 2010 British Grand Prix looks set to be a cracker with the 2008 World Champion and British GP winner, Lewis Hamilton (above) and 2009 World Champion Jenson Button both driving for Mclaren and for Britain.

Companies such as Motorhomes Worldwide offer a 5% discount for paying upfront for a fixed time, whilst Tilshead Caravans have offered caravan hire at the event for several years.

Needs a Bigger Tow Car

If you are thinking of renting a caravan, I think you might need a bigger tow car than this…

Advertising Your Caravan for Rent

Advertising your caravan will make a difference to your customer numbers and consequently the income that your caravan brings you. Advertising costs money so it is important that you spend your money on a good advertising method.

The internet is a very good place to advertise your caravan. It will reach a very wide audience for comparitively little cost. There are websites such as www.caravans-4-hire.co.uk that advertise various caravans that are available for rent. The campsite where it is kept will most likely to be able to advertise your caravan and provide you with bookings at a cost.

Having your own website is another option to increase your number of bookings. Doing everything you can to make sure it is well ranked by search engines will help dramatically. A highly ranked website will take care of most of your bookings itself.

Although the internet is a fantastic opportunity for advertising your caravan, don’t overlook the more traditional methods. Adverts in magazines and classifieds will help bring in bookings. Advertising with the Caravan Club and other well known and popular publications will increase the number of people that see your advert. Traditional forms of advertising can be expensive however compared to online advertising.

Word of mouth is a completely free method of advertising and may get you some booking so make sure you let all your family and friends know that you have a caravan available for rent and for them to spread the word. Any booking you get from this method is 100% profit.

Caravan Rental in Newquay

The summer surf season is on it’s way and many of you will be thinking of strapping the surfboards to the roof rack and heading down to the Atlantic coast of Cornwall for some surfing. There are many options available to you, you could stay in a hotel or even take a tent but why not stay in the luxurious and affordable surroundings of a static caravan. A static caravan can house up to 8 people in some cases and they give you the flexibility to largely do what you want.

Prices can vary dramatically for caravan rental depending on what time of year you go, school holidays will always be more expensice so avoid these if at all possible, this also means that the beaches will be less crowded. A lot of caravan parks only open for the summer, March to April and September to October will always be the cheapest with prices roughly averaging £150 per week for a 6 berth static caravan. Prices in July and August can be up to £600pw so bear this in mind.

These figures were taken from rough research that I have done but there are things that you can do to bring down the price. Caravan sites that are nearer to Newquay and the beaches will be more expensive, if you don’t mind driving to the surf then you could save yourself some money.

Making sure you fill every bed in the caravan will mean you are not wasting any money and there will be the maxiumum number of people to split the cost of the caravan and of any food and drink that will be required.

Caravanners Perfect Celebrity Companion

Caravanners have revealed their perfect celebrity holiday companion in a survey by Safeguard. An online survey of 1,200 customers by motorhome and caravan insurance retailer Safeguard, found that nearly one third of caravanners would pick bubbly Lorraine Kelly as their perfect holiday companion.

Funny man Peter Kay came a close second, while other perfect holiday companions who made the grade were celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, TV presenter Coleen Nolan, domestic goddess Nigella Lawson and infamous rocker Rod Stewart.

Caravanners favourite holiday companions were as follows:

1. Lorraine Kelly (32%)

2. Peter Kay (28%)

3. Jamie Oliver (15%)

4. Coleen Nolan (11%)

5. Nigella Lawson (9%)

6. Rod Stewart (5%)

Rita Sadler, Safeguard Manager, said “Caravanners spend a lot of time on the roads so it’s vital they have the ideal companion to pass the time with. We can see why Lorraine Kelly would make the perfect holiday pal as her down to earth chatter would keep you entertained on the journey. Peter Kay would have you in hysterics all day long which might be difficult when trying to concentrate on the roads! The celebrity chefs are an excellent choice and I’m sure they would help spice up your campsite meals.
